Dellinger Park in Cartersville: An Easy Family Day That Doesn’t Require a Big Plan

Dellinger Park in Cartersville, Georgia, featuring the lake, gazebo and tree-lined walking path.
Dellinger Park gives Cartersville families a beautiful place to walk, play, picnic and spend time outdoors.

Not every family outing needs tickets.

Or reservations.

Or a carefully constructed itinerary.

Or $187 worth of admission, snacks and souvenirs before you’ve even figured out where everybody is going to eat lunch. 😂

Sometimes you just need:

A park. A playground. Somewhere to walk. A picnic. And enough room for everybody to burn off some energy.

That’s where Dellinger Park comes in.

Located at 100 Pine Grove Road in Cartersville, Dellinger Park is one of those places that can be as simple or as involved as you want it to be. The City of Cartersville currently lists playgrounds, picnic areas and pavilions, a lake with a gazebo, walking trails, basketball, tennis and pickleball courts, softball fields, a track and other recreational facilities.

In other words:

Bring the kids. Bring lunch. Figure out the rest when you get there.

I am a big fan of this level of planning. 😂

You Can Actually Make a Day of It

This is what I like about Dellinger.

If the kids want the playground, there’s a playground.

If somebody wants to walk, there’s a trail.

If somebody wants to throw a ball around, you’ve got space and sports facilities.

If Grandma wants absolutely no part of any of that and would prefer to sit near the lake…

Grandma has options too. 😂

The park includes a lake and gazebo, picnic tables and pavilions along with its recreation facilities. Cartersville tourism also highlights the pond and ducks as part of the park experience.

And that makes it one of those rare family outings where people of completely different ages can find something to do without somebody eventually announcing:

“I’m bored.”

Well.

They’re kids.

Somebody will still announce they’re bored.

But at least you tried. 😂

Want to Get Some Steps In?

Dellinger is also a really good option if you just want to get outside and move.

The city’s current recreation information lists both a 2-mile trail and a 1-mile trail, along with the Braille Trail and dog-waste stations.

So this doesn’t have to be a family outing at all.

It can be:

A morning walk.

A run.

A meet-up with a friend.

A “I have been sitting at my computer for six hours and need to see a tree before I lose my mind” walk.

I feel like that last category is underrepresented in official park literature. 😂

Sports Families Already Know

If you’ve raised kids around Cartersville, there’s a decent chance Dellinger Park has already been part of your life through sports.

The park has softball fields, tennis courts, pickleball, basketball courts, a football field and track.

Which means there are probably Bartow County parents reading this whose primary Dellinger Park memories involve:

folding chairs, coolers, sports bags and trying to remember which field somebody said to meet at.

That’s family life too. 😂

What About the Pool?

Dellinger also has a public pool and splash-pad facility during its summer season.

But here’s an important current note: the city’s 2026 schedule shows the pool season ended on Labor Day, September 7, so don’t load everybody into the car this weekend expecting to swim.

Next summer, though?

Put it back on the list.

That’s exactly why I like writing these local guides as evergreen resources while still checking seasonal amenities separately.

The Best Part Might Be That It Doesn’t Have to Cost You Much

Tellus is a fantastic museum day.

The Booth is a fantastic museum day.

But sometimes you don’t need a museum day.

Sometimes the kids just need to GO OUTSIDE.

Pack sandwiches.

Bring drinks.

Throw a blanket in the car.

Let them play.

Walk around the lake.

Feed the ducks if current park rules allow it.

And suddenly you’ve created an afternoon without needing a family budget meeting first. 😂

Another One of Those Places We Forget Is Here

That’s really the theme of this entire Around Bartow series.

We spend so much time asking:

“What should we do in Bartow County this weekend?”

And then immediately start looking toward Atlanta.

Meanwhile, we have museums, parks, trails, historic places, restaurants and family activities sitting right here.

Dellinger Park isn’t flashy.

That’s kind of the point.

It’s simply a really useful community space where you can spend an hour, spend an afternoon, exercise, let the kids play, have a picnic or meet up with family.

Sometimes easy is exactly what you need.

A Front Porch Rachel Thought

I love showing people the big attractions around Bartow County.

But I also want to show the places that make everyday life here good.

Because when you’re deciding whether you like a community, it’s not only:

What big attraction can I visit?

It’s also:

Where can I take my grandson to play?

Where can I walk in the morning?

Where can we meet friends for a picnic?

Where can the kids play without me pulling out my credit card every seven minutes? 😂

Those places matter.

And Dellinger Park is one of them.

So Bartow County parents and grandparents:

What’s your family’s favorite thing to do at Dellinger?
