If you’re moving to Bartow County and don’t know the area yet, your home search may start something like this:
“We think we want Cartersville.”
Okay.
Why?
“Because that’s the place we’ve heard of.”
😂
Fair.
Cartersville is the county seat and one of the names people are most likely to recognize when they start researching Bartow County.
But here’s what I don’t want you to do:
Pick a town first and try to force your life into it afterward.
Bartow County isn’t one lifestyle repeated across different ZIP codes.
You can live closer to downtown.
Near I-75.
In a subdivision.
On acreage.
In a small town.
Far enough out that your directions eventually include something like:
“When you see the pasture, you’re almost there.”
😂
So if you’re relocating here and staring at the map thinking:
“Where the hell am I supposed to live?”
Good news.
You don’t need to know yet.
Let’s figure it out.
Start With Your Life—Not the Map
Before I care whether you’ve chosen Cartersville, Adairsville, Euharlee, Emerson, Kingston, Taylorsville or White, I want to know:
What does your normal week look like?
Where do you work?
How often do you commute?
Do you work from home?
Where does your family live?
What do you do on weekends?
Do you want restaurants nearby?
Do you want land?
Do you want a neighborhood?
Do you have children with activities?
Do you travel frequently?
Do you need easy interstate access?
Are you trying to get closer to things?
Or are you moving to Bartow County because you desperately want to get away from things?
😂
Those answers start shrinking the map pretty quickly.
If You Commute, Start There
If you’re still working in Atlanta, Cobb County or somewhere else south of Bartow, your commute deserves serious consideration.
Because that gorgeous house can look VERY different at:
11:00 Saturday morning
than it does at:
7:00 Monday morning.
😂
Think about how frequently you’ll actually make the drive.
Five days a week?
Twice?
Occasionally?
Remote except for meetings?
Your tolerance for commuting matters too.
Some people genuinely don’t mind driving.
Other people hit 30 minutes and begin questioning every decision they’ve made since birth.
Don’t choose your location based on somebody else’s definition of “not a bad commute.”
Drive it.
Think About Your Relationship With I-75
I-75 is a major part of how many people move through Bartow County and toward Metro Atlanta.
If you commute regularly or travel frequently, proximity to interstate access may rank high on your list.
But maybe you don’t care.
Maybe you work from home.
Maybe you’re retired.
Maybe you specifically want to be farther away from major roads.
That’s why:
“What’s the best area?”
isn’t really the question.
The question is:
“What’s the best area for YOUR life?”
Do You Want Town—or Do You Want Space?
This narrows things down fast.
Some buyers want:
Restaurants.
Shopping.
Coffee.
Events.
Downtown.
Shorter drives to everyday conveniences.
Other buyers want:
Land.
Privacy.
A workshop.
Room for an RV.
Chickens.
A garden.
A long driveway.
And apparently Kevin.
🐐😂
Some want a little of both.
Bartow County gives buyers different ways to balance those priorities.
Don’t tell me what town you think you’re supposed to choose.
Tell me what you want to see when you look out the kitchen window.
That’s more useful.
Cartersville
Cartersville will naturally be a starting point for many people relocating here.
It offers access to shopping, restaurants, healthcare, local events, downtown Cartersville and a variety of housing options.
But even saying:
“Cartersville”
doesn’t tell us everything.
Remember—having a Cartersville mailing address doesn’t necessarily mean you’re inside the incorporated City of Cartersville.
Location within the broader Cartersville area can make a big difference in your daily routine.
Adairsville
If you’re looking farther north in Bartow County, Adairsville deserves consideration.
It’s its own community—not “Cartersville but farther away.” 😂
Depending on where you work and what kind of lifestyle you’re looking for, its location may make perfect sense.
This is exactly why I want relocation buyers looking at Bartow County as a collection of communities, not one big Cartersville search radius.
Emerson
Emerson sits toward the southern part of Bartow County and can deserve a closer look, particularly when location and access toward Metro Atlanta matter to a buyer.
Again:
Don’t choose it simply because it’s farther south.
Don’t dismiss it because it isn’t Cartersville.
Evaluate whether the location and housing options fit your actual priorities.
Euharlee
Euharlee offers another completely different feel.
If small-town surroundings and being a little removed from the interstate corridor appeal to you, it may belong on the list.
But remember what we’ve been talking about all week:
Every lifestyle comes with tradeoffs.
If you want more separation from major roads and commercial areas, you’re also choosing the driving that may come with it.
That’s not bad.
That’s the deal.
Taylorsville
Now you’re in my neck of the woods. ❤️
I live in Taylorsville because this lifestyle works for me.
That doesn’t mean it’s automatically right for you.
And that’s exactly the point of this entire article.
If you’re attracted to a more rural setting, more space and a slower pace, Taylorsville may deserve a look.
If you need to be five minutes from everything?
We need to talk. 😂
And if you’re coming from subdivision life:
White
White is another area buyers may encounter as they look north and northeast around Bartow County.
Again, the exact property matters.
Are you looking for neighborhood living?
More land?
Convenient access to the places you use?
A particular commute?
Don’t reduce an entire area to a pin on Google Maps.
Kingston
Kingston gives us another example of why Bartow County searches shouldn’t begin and end with Cartersville.
If you’re drawn toward small-town or more rural surroundings, it’s another place worth understanding.
The right question isn’t:
“Is Kingston good?”
The right question is:
“Does Kingston fit what I’m trying to do?”
Don’t Choose Based on House Price Alone
This is a big one.
You may find more house for your budget in one location than another.
That absolutely matters.
But don’t chase square footage so far across the map that you accidentally create a life you hate.
😂
Saving money on the house doesn’t feel quite as exciting if you’re spending hours every week driving somewhere you wish you lived closer to.
Likewise, paying more to live near something you never actually use doesn’t make much sense either.
Price is part of the decision.
It shouldn’t be the entire decision.
Do a Practice Day
This is one of my favorite relocation tricks.
Before choosing an area, spend some time living there without living there.
Not just touring houses.
Drive around.
Go to the grocery store.
Grab coffee.
Eat dinner.
Drive your potential commute.
Visit on a weekday.
Come back on the weekend.
See how long it takes to get to places you’d actually use.
If you’re considering a more rural property, drive the route after dark.
That last one can be illuminating.
Or technically…
significantly less illuminating. 😂
The goal is to experience the area beyond the 30 minutes you’re inside the house with me.
Your Search Area Can Change
You are allowed to start the process thinking you want Cartersville…
and end up loving Euharlee.
Or Taylorsville.
Or Adairsville.
Or White.
Or Emerson.
Or Kingston.
You have not failed the home-buying process.
😂
You’ve learned something.
That’s exactly what touring different parts of Bartow County is supposed to accomplish.
Sometimes the first few houses teach us more about location than they do about houses.
Give Me Your Non-Negotiables
If you don’t know the area, don’t worry about giving me a perfect list of towns.
Give me your life requirements.
For example:
I need to reach I-75 reasonably quickly.
I want at least two acres.
I don’t want an HOA.
I work from home and need reliable internet.
I want restaurants and shopping nearby.
I want a workshop.
I don’t want to maintain acreage.
I want to be able to get downtown easily.
Now we have something useful.
We can begin matching locations to the way you actually live.
Don’t Let the Internet Pick Your Town for You
Google is incredibly useful.
So are Facebook groups.
Reddit.
Relocation forums.
Your cousin’s friend who lived in Georgia for nine months in 2014.
😂
But nobody online knows your priorities better than you do.
Be careful with:
“What’s the BEST place to live in Bartow County?”
There isn’t one.
There’s a best fit for a particular person.
And two buyers with identical budgets can choose completely different parts of Bartow County and both make the right decision.
A Front Porch Rachel Thought
When you’re moving somewhere unfamiliar, you naturally want somebody to tell you:
“Live here.”
It feels easier.
But I don’t think my job is to pick your town for you.
My job is to help you understand your options well enough that you recognize the right fit when you find it.
Maybe that’s downtown Cartersville.
Maybe it’s a neighborhood in Emerson.
Maybe it’s acreage in Taylorsville.
Maybe it’s somewhere you hadn’t even considered when we started.
That’s okay.
Don’t start with the map.
Start with your life.
Your commute.
Your weekends.
Your people.
Your priorities.
Your tolerance for yard work. 😂
Then we’ll look at Bartow County and figure out where those pieces fit.
Because you’re not just deciding where to buy a house.
You’re deciding where your everyday life is going to happen.
And that’s a much better place to start.
